Working closely with Perkins + Will, CDC designed and engineered the terra cotta sunshade system for the architect which was a thin prestressed rod system giving the appearance of the shades floating in mid air. CDC also developed the spring tensioning system which held the roots in tension year round to prevent slackening and shortening from thermal elongation of the rods during the summer heat and the winter cold.
