This 34-story, 780,000 square-foot hotel and condominium tower is 439 feet tall and includes 252 luxury hotel guest rooms, 64 luxury residences, a two-story spa and fitness center, outdoor infinity swimming pool and signature top floor "Ghost Bar" entertainment destination with cantilevered glass balcony.
After unexplained breakage of glass within an installed glass balcony railing system, CDC was hired to investigate the conditions, and peer review the project drawings and calculations. We concluded that the railing stanchion plates were overstressed. CDC modeled the condition in ANSYS, analyzing stress and deformation of the materials under design loading - demonstrating that the design was not adequate to resist loads applied. CDC designed a new, structurally adequate stanchion plate within the thickness and width constraints of the existing conditions.
